Napolitano Seeks To End Stalemate By Either A Coalition Or Naming PM

Italian re-elected President Giorgio Napolitano starts serious talks and consultations on Tuesday that aims to come out with a new Prime Minister and government to end two months of stalemate after the inconclusive results of February 24-25 election.

Napolitano will meet with political parties leaders early Tuesday with strong intention to end the stalemate as he threatened to resign if parties remained irresponsible while he may name a new Prime Minister today.

Former Prime Minister Giuliano Amato may be asked to lead a government, with Angelino Alfano of People of Liberty and Enrico Letta of the Democratic Party as his deputies, Corriera della Sera newspaper said.

It is worthwhile to note that the political impasse has eased after the resignation of Pier Luigi Bersani, who got the largest number of votes in February's election, as it may pave the way for a coalition between the Democratic Party and People of Liberty, while Beppe Grillo, who came third in election, will probably play the role of opposition.
